A great interview means almost nothing

Twenty years of placements, and this still surprises parents. The skills that make someone interview well are not the skills that make someone wonderful with your child.

What interviews actually tell you

CARE MAP INSIGHT™

The interview decides exactly one thing: is she worth a trial in your home?

Don't use it to judge how she is with your child. That is what the trial is for.

So what is the interview for?

Screening. The interview filters out candidates with disqualifying gaps, mismatched expectations, or a caregiving philosophy that clashes with yours. It can't show you warmth, patience, or how someone reads a child in real time — only a trial day can.

Which means the most important hiring decision isn't “should we hire her?” after the interview. It's “should we try her?” — and then watching carefully.
