Six ways parents get quietly ignored

You asked. You were sure you were clear. Then it didn't happen. Usually the problem isn't the nanny — it's that what you said didn't land as a request.

Nanny Speak™ rules

CARE MAP INSIGHT™

Say what you need for your kids, what you need from your nanny, and what you need for yourself.

Calm and matter-of-fact. Emotion is what she will hear instead of the request.

Why softening backfires

Parents soften requests to be kind — “If you get a chance, could you maybe…”. But softened requests read as optional, and optional things get dropped on a busy day. Then the parent feels ignored, and the nanny has no idea anything went wrong.

Clear isn't the same as harsh. “Please keep screens off until after nap” is both kind and unmistakable.
