In much of Maine, getting to a therapist means a long drive, a long waitlist, or both, and in winter the drive is the first thing to go.

A 30-second welcome from Tammy. Watch on its own page
You don’t need a perfect connection. A phone, a reasonably steady signal and a private spot are enough. Some people take sessions from a parked car at the edge of town, a library study room, or a quiet corner at work.
In a small town, privacy matters. Online sessions mean no one sees your car outside an office. And because I’m not part of your community, you won’t run into your therapist at the store.
This is individual psychotherapy with a licensed clinician. It isn’t coaching. Couples and family sessions are a different format that insurance may treat differently, so ask before you book if you’re interested in a joint session.
Sessions combine a standard clinical assessment with the Care Map Method™, the framework I use to look at your sleep and health, your feelings, your relationships and your daily demands, then build one practical change at a time. More about therapy in Maine.
Write down what you’ll do when a storm, a power outage or a bad week knocks out your usual routine: one person you’ll call, one thing that settles you, and where you’ll go if the internet is out at home. Knowing the plan ahead makes the hard weeks less scary.
Sessions are online by video for adults who are physically located in Maine, or another state where I’m licensed, during each session. I’m licensed in Maine (LCSW #LC26593), and also in California, New Jersey, Oregon and Iowa.
Through Alma, I’m in network with Aetna, Cigna, Carelon, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, and Optum plans including UnitedHealthcare, Oscar and Oxford. Coverage depends on your specific plan, not only the insurance company’s name. Alma checks it before your first session, including any copay or deductible, and handles the billing. A phone, tablet or computer with a camera, a steady enough connection, and somewhere private. We can test it together before the first session.
We’ll agree on a backup plan at the first session, such as reconnecting by phone or rescheduling.
Sessions happen on a secure video platform. In our first session I’ll explain how confidentiality works and its limits. The bigger privacy question is often at home; we’ll find a spot where you can talk freely.
We talk about what brings you in, your history, your support and your safety. You leave with one small, specific thing to try.

Coverage still depends on your specific plan. Alma checks it before your first appointment, including any copay or deductible.
