Online therapist for Bangor and eastern Maine

In Bangor and the towns around it, the closest therapist with an opening can mean a long wait or a long drive. Online therapy means neither.

I’m Tammy Gold, a licensed clinical social worker in Maine (LCSW #LC26593). I see adults in Bangor, Brewer, Hampden, Orono, Old Town, Ellsworth and across Penobscot and Hancock counties, and further north, by video.

Online sessions for adults located in California, New Jersey, Oregon, Maine or Iowa. Alma checks your specific plan before you book.

When the drive is part of the problem

For a lot of people in eastern and northern Maine, therapy has meant an hour in the car each way, in winter, on top of work and family.

With video, a one-hour session takes one hour. If your internet is patchy, we can plan around it: a better spot in the house, a phone hotspot, or a session from a parked car near a strong signal.

You might be looking for help with

This is individual psychotherapy with a licensed clinician. It isn’t coaching. Couples and family sessions are a different format that insurance may treat differently, so ask before you book if you’re interested in a joint session.

What we might work on

How sessions work

Sessions combine a standard clinical assessment with the Care Map Method™, the framework I use to look at your sleep and health, your feelings, your relationships and your daily demands, then build one practical change at a time. More about therapy in Maine.

TRY THIS

A weekly check-in with yourself

Pick the same time every week, Sunday evening for example, and write three lines: what was hardest this week, what helped even a little, and one thing you’ll do differently next week. It takes five minutes and gives you, and your therapist, a clear picture over time.

Sessions, licenses and insurance

Sessions are online by video for adults who are physically located in Maine, or another state where I’m licensed, during each session. I’m licensed in Maine (LCSW #LC26593), and also in California, New Jersey, Oregon and Iowa.

Through Alma, I’m in network with Aetna, Cigna, Carelon, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, and Optum plans including UnitedHealthcare, Oscar and Oxford. Coverage depends on your specific plan, not only the insurance company’s name. Alma checks it before your first session, including any copay or deductible, and handles the billing. Questions people ask

I live up in Aroostook County. Can I still see you?

Yes. You can see me from anywhere in Maine, as long as you’re physically in the state during the session.

What if my internet drops during a session?

It happens. We’ll agree on a backup at the first session, such as reconnecting by phone.

Do you work with University of Maine students?

Yes, adult students who are physically in Maine during sessions. Many students also have free counseling through their school, which is worth checking first, and Alma can tell you whether your student health plan covers sessions with me.

What happens in the first session?

We talk about what brings you in, your history, your support and your safety. You leave with one small, specific thing to try.

Do you take my insurance?

I see clients through Alma, and through Alma I’m in network with Aetna, Cigna, Carelon, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, and Optum plans including UnitedHealthcare, Oscar and Oxford. Coverage still depends on your specific plan. Alma checks it before your first appointment, including any copay or deductible. Please share plan and health details through Alma’s secure intake, not by text or email.

Do I need to be in Maine for sessions?

Yes, or in another state where I’m licensed. Sessions are online by video, and you need to be physically in Maine, California, New Jersey, Oregon or Iowa during each one. If you’ll be traveling, tell me ahead of time so we can plan around it.
